The Cardinia Trust Grants Program
Grants have been allocated in 2011. The
Foundation will be looking for applicants in 2012.
GUIDELINES FOR APPLYING
The Cardinia Foundation is an independent community based Trust
established in 2003. It has always been closely associated with the
Shire of Cardinia. The Shire has an area 0f 1280 square kilometres
including 30 townships and a growth corridor with an expected
growth population of 130,000 people over the next 20 years. Over
time Cardinia Shire will become a regionally significant employment
location with an estimated 435,000 workforce.
The Cardinia Foundation’s purpose is to be integrated into the
social, community, and physical development of Cardinia Shire. The
Cardinia Foundation raises funds and encourages philanthropy in
order to provide independent additional grants to support the
growing needs of communities now and in the future, across The
Shire of Cardinia.
The Cardinia Foundation Grant’s Panel will review all
applications and put forward recommendations to the Trustees of the
Foundation to consider and determine. The Cardinia Trustee’s
decision is final.

PART 1: ABOUT THE CARDINIA FOUNDATION
The Cardinia Foundation is an independent Trust that was
established by the Cardinia Shire Council in 2003.
The Cardinia Foundation will raise funds and encourage
philanthropy in order to provide grants to support communities
across the Shire of Cardinia.
The Cardinia Foundation provides support to arts, environment,
and community groups. Other groups that are actively involved in
community issues may also apply.

- Former Mayor, Cardinia Shire.

- Former Chairman: Save the Children Victoria.

Trustee Cr. Graeme Legge OAM JP:
- Graeme Legge is a retired School Principal.
- Currently an elected municipal councilor and already has twelve
years’ service to his credit.
- He has now commenced his fifth term.

- Managing Director of Khans Management Group.
- Adam has various business interest with in the Shire.
- A Board Member of Manningham Youth Services.
Trustee: Garry McQuillan:
- Currently CEO of Cardinia Shire.
- Garry has management and financial qualifications as well as a
long history in local government.

- CEO of Parklea Developments Pty.
- Andrew is affiliated with Windermere Child & Family
Services.
- Committee Member of Let’s Beat Bowel Cancer at Cabrini.
Trustee: Jack Mitchell
- Director of Fundraising and Project Manager for the Cardinia
Combined Churches Caring Crisis Relief Centre and Food Bank.
- Currently a Judge of the Cardinia Business Awards.
- Immediate past Chairman of the Lakeside Community Forum.

- Managing Director of Star News Group Pty Ltd.
- Current President of Victorian Country Press Association.

PART: 4 PROCEDURES
- Applications from organisations should be lodged on the
official form provided.
- Applications should be accompanied with:
- Annual Report and Financial Statement.
- Brochures or other relevant material about the
organization.
- Taxation status.
- Any other relevant materials or support information.
PART: 5 CRITERIA
The Cardinia Foundation Trust can decide to fully fund, partly
fund or make a contribution to a project.
The Cardinia Foundation funds are only applicable to
organisations/groups not individual persons.
Key Factors to be Included
- Community Benefits
- Helps those living in the Shire of Cardinia.
- Helps to build skills in the community.
- Complements The Cardinia Foundation’s activities.
- Targets Cardinia’s disadvantaged communities or improves
access.
- Link to planning
- States clear aims for the activity.
- Shows evidence of planning eg. resources, safety, permits.
- Resourcing
- Demonstrates capacity to deliver on the activity and meet
conditions of funding.
- Seeks where possible, to identify other sources of
financial/in-kind support.
- Has limited financial capacity and/or means to attract other
financial/in-kind support.
- Consideration will be given to the level of previous financial
assistance.
- Demonstrates good use of The Cardinia Foundation funds.
PART 6: NOTE TO APPLICANTS
Regrettably not all grant requests can be satisfied, however,
the Foundation seeks to provide a fair balance between applicants.
If an eligible organisation does not receive a grant in the current
funding round it should not be dissuaded from applying again in the
following round of funding (even if it is for the same cause or
project).
Eligible organisations, whether successful or not, may submit an
application each time funding is open for applications.
PART 7: OTHER GENERAL INFORMATION
- Late applications are unable to be accepted.
- The Cardinia Foundations Trustee’s decision is
final.
- Successful applicants need to prominently acknowledge the
support of The Cardinia Foundation.
- Applicants must not spend money on the proposed activity before
funding is announced. This is considered retrospective funding,
which is not eligible for support.
- Funding is not automatic upon application. All requests
are subject to consideration each year.
- Success in any given year does not guarantee success in
subsequent years.
